Inspired by the Moore curve (a continuous fractal space-filling curve), in other words a never ending line which totally fills a space. By using two stages of the curve, the contrast of makes a shape, so in came the gecko. It is done in interlocking crochet which was perfect to bring forward the pattern. The pattern files on Ravelry include instructions on the technique.
The finished blanket measures 1,30m wide x 2m long.
